On 8 October, the CMVM will be holding the Annual Conference on "Investing in the Recovery: the role of the capital markets", contributing to the reflection on the best public strategies and policies that enhance the capital markets as a vehicle for economic recovery, in a particularly challenging period in the context of the crisis generated by the covid-19 pandemic.
The conference that will be held at the Museu do Oriente in Lisbon and is available online via streaming, will be chaired by Gabriela Figueiredo Dias, the CMVM Chairperson, and includes the participation of Pedro Siza Vieira, Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, João Nuno Mendes, Secretary of State for Finance, and a renowned panel of national and international speakers, representatives of regulatory bodies, associations representing the financial sector, investors, rating agencies, the financial industry and academics.
Guest speakers include Fernando Alexandre (Associate Professor with Aggregation at Universidade do Minho), Josina Kamerling (Head of Regulatory Outreach for the CFA Institute for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Pedro Matos (Academic Director of Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management of University of Virginia), Ricardo Paes Mamede (Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of Political Economy at ISCTE), Robert Ophèle (Chair of AMF), Stéphane Boujnah (CEO and Chair of the Management Board of Euronext), Steven Maijoor (Chair of ESMA), Tanguy van de Werve (Director General of EFAMA) and Ugo Bassi (Director of Financial Markets in the European Commission's DG FISMA), who will be addressing issues concerning the financing of the Portuguese economy, the challenges facing investors and the industry investment funds in Europe, financial stability from the perspective of the non-banking financial sector and the European Commission's plans for the Capital Markets Union.
During the day, topics such as "Investor protection and the value of trust", "Trends in sustainable investment and corporate responsibility", "Financial stability and the capital markets" and "Financing the recovery", will be debated in round-table format.

This year's CMVM Annual Conference is part of World Investor Week, a global IOSCO initiative wherein Portugal is associated for the fourth consecutive year and this edition will have the high-level sponsorship of His Excellency the President of the Republic.
