Portuguese Capital Markets Benchmarks
The PSI-20 Index closed at 5,494.27 points, corresponding to a 0.8% decrease since November and 27.6% less than the end of 2010. The market capitalization of Euronext Lisbon amounted to EUR 170,551.6 million in December, reflecting 3.8% more than in the previous month and 11.7% less when compared to the same period last year.
The bond sector was the leading contributor to the upswing in market capitalization of the regulated market of Euronext Lisbon in December, rising 7% up to EUR 64,762.6 million in comparison to November and 16.6% when compared with the same period in 2010. This was followed by the share sector that increased 2.4% as against the preceding month even though a 23.6% decline in the year was accrued and closed 2011 with a market capitalization of EUR 102,693.8 million.
The PSI 20's volatility was 20.77% in December. This was below the 24.86% recorded in November and above the 16.08% recorded in the same period last year.
The key issuers on the Index at the end of the year were EDP (18.92%), Jerónimo Martins (17.90%) and Galp (16.27%).
The value of spot secondary market transactions amounted to EUR 2,083.8 million in December. This is EUR 616.3 million (22.8%) less than November and EUR 1,796.2 million (46.3%) less than the same period in 2010.
The trading volume on the regulated market of Euronext Lisbon dropped 22.6% when compared to November and 46.5% in comparison to December 2010 down to EUR 2,054.9 million. In the Special Public Debt Market (MEDIP), the trading volume fell 54.1% in comparison to the preceding month and 77.6% in comparison to the end of 2010 down to EUR 246 million.
In the Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities and Special Investment Funds Industry, the amount under management dropped 3.0% in November down to EUR 10,646.8 million when compared with the preceding month. The amount under management of Real Estate Investment Funds dipped 0.2% in November down to EUR 11,872.2 million from the preceding month.
